"We
stayed here briefly before driving to the east coast for a stay in
a villa in Techac Puerto(HIGHLY RECOMMENDED-try
http://www.kab-yucatan.com Villa de la Playa)"
"I am just
back from Villa del la Playa in Puerto de Abrigo right outside of
Telchac Purerto in Yucatan.
I have to say that the Villa fulfilled all of our needs, we arrived and
Susan was standing out front, waiting for us in order to direct us to
the Villa. She gave us a quick tour and even gave us a phone to use for
local calls, an updated edition of Yucatan living magazine and of
course our keys. We were very happy with the Villa and its comforts; I
do have to say however, that we didn’t expect it to be as far
away as it actually was.
On the maps I had, Telchac Puerto was before you get to Merida from Cancun,
however, not so, we had to pass Merida and Progresso to get to Telchac.
And, from the villa, It’s a good 20-25 min. drive to the gas
station, the Aurrera which is like a Wal-mart and the xxo convenience
store in Progesso for provisions. However, if you took a 10-15 min.
drive in the opposite direction which is Telchac Puerto, there is a
small liquor store and other small stores in Telchac along with a
restaurant or two. We did eat there once but nothing to recommend (we
dined at a restaurant with a red awning). but of course we
didn’t explore Telchac until the last day we were there.
There is a small gas station in Puerto de Abrigo, off a dirt road near
our Villa, of course, again, something we didn’t find out
until we were getting ready to leave.
The beach was great, the pool was wonderful, the villa fantastic and
our birthday party went off without a hitch, thanks to the property
manager, Susan Stewart, she set everything up that I requested and I
couldn’t have been happier. I wanted a massage for the
birthday boy and Susan took care of everything, the woman arrived at
the Villa and gave a massage longer than was ordered, boyfriend was
delirious, he loved it and could barely speak afterwards. I also had
Susan set up a birthday dinner, hiring a chef with specific food
selections. What arrived were two wonderful people and they were so
nice and personable, they fixed everything, serving our dinner party,
cleaning up and putting the food away….you
couldn’t ask for anything more, the food was fantastic.
Susan also picked-up the birthday cake and some decorations and came
and decorated for the ensuing party. Susan was so easy to work with and
everything was perfect, perfect, perfect. If I was forced or pushed to
give a complaint, I would have to say that the kitchen sink
didn’t drain very well and the master bathroom and the
upstairs apartment bathroom showers didn’t have much for
water pressure.
On our second day, we didn’t have much hot water, but Susan
got right on it and within a few minutes, problem solved, she said
there wasn’t much she could do about the water pressure, but
the water pressure in the second bathroom which I was using was perfect
for me. It was the master and the apt. bathroom showers that
didn’t have much pressure.
I also have to add, we always felt very safe, there are two military
police check points that we passed going and coming, by the end of the
week, we would just wave to each other, the police there were very nice
and we were never hassled, not even in the smaller villages and we were
stopped maybe 3 or 4 times around Merida and Progresso. They would just
ask if we had been drinking or where we were going and would let us
pass.
The Villa is perfect if you want to get away from everyone and not do
too much sightseeing outside of Merida. If you are looking to sightsee
more, you should reconsider the location of the Villa. It did seem that
we spent a lot of time in the car and lost, we had three maps and none
of them said the same thing, a few of the highways were marked
differently on the maps as well, it was very frustrating, but coming
home to our Villa always eased the frustrations of the day away and we
were all smiles again. There were even coconut trees around which we
helped ourselves to and all I can say is….YUMMY!!!!
We loved the Villa and would stay there again. Thanks so much Susan for
all your hard work, you are the best-est!"
Villa de La Playa is a beautiful home on the beach -
recently
professionally remodeled by a design contractor.
The
interiors are finely appointed with art work and all the amenities for
your comfort...
The
white sand beach is perfect for long beach walks and the gentle surf is
perfect for safe swimming and snorkeling.
This
fantastic home is only a half block from the Marina Luna which is home
to the quaint fishing boats and the Flamingo Lakes Yacht basin. Fishing
boats are available by the day or half day to take you fishing. There
is a fish co-operativo, where you can buy the freshest fish for your
seafood dinners.
The fresh sea breezes make it a comfortable place to be almost all the
time.
A perfect "escondido" or hideaway.
Telchac Puerto is 5 minutes away; it has stores for fruit and vegetable
shopping and basic groceries, a bakery, seafood restaurants, and a
clinic. The town plaza is charming and has a park with a
children’s
play area.
The Reef Yucatan Resort, a fantastic 5 star hotel is just across the
canal and day passes are available at reasonable prices should you like
to spend the day and take advantage of their great restaurant and
exclusive facilities. It is all-inclusive.
A car is not absolutely necessary but it would add to your enjoyment of
the area. There are buses should you prefer.
Incredible
flocks of the most beautiful pink flamingos may be seen in
the lagoon just the other side of the marina.
Xcambo is a Mayan Temple very near Puerto Abrigo. It is a large site
that is currently being restored. Xcambo was a salt and salted fish
center of its day, supplying Chichen Itza, Uxmal, and Izamal with these
products. This is an interesting sight and worth seeing.
Puerto Progresso, only twenty minutes by car, has good restaurants,
souvenir shops and a 6 mile pier where luxury cruse ships and cargo
ships dock.
Villa de La Playa is one hour from the beautiful, exciting, historic
city of Merida, the cultural capital of Mexico. A forty-five minute
drive takes you to Liverpool, one of Mexico’s finest
department stores
and just a couple of blocks more is Gran Plaza with Sears and many,
many beautiful stores.
